Tirana, Albania
We spent a week in Tirana, the capital of Albania, as guests of the Minister of Defense, to assist with a concert that was a showcase of ancient forms of Albanian music and dance, an art form recognized and protected by UNESCO. The concert served two purposes: the 99th anniversary of Albania's Independence, and a concert in honor of the NATO Supreme Commander who was visiting at the time (hence the invite from the Minister of Defense). The overall experience was a fascinating juxtaposition between the traditional forms of expression and modern theatrical design and show control.
Our mission was to tie together the movement, music, and visuals into a single immersive experience. The video above demonstrates an interactive piece that shows sensed movement and live image capture of dancers both affecting and becoming the projected content from the concert. The next two videos below showcase the applied technology and creative collaboration in more depth.
